Insurance Terms
Last updated: 29 August 2026
Here you will find Pelican’s current insurance terms for storage. The terms describe, among other things, insurance cover, compensation, exclusions, and the conditions that apply to your belongings when you rent a storage unit with Pelican.
Overview of our insurance cover
This option applies only if you have indicated “yes” to the insurance option described in the rental agreement and have paid the relevant fee. Please read the rental agreement and the insurance terms carefully.
It is a condition of the rental agreement that your belongings are insured for their full and actual total value, and that the cover is maintained for the entire period during which we store them.
Please note that, whether or not you ask us to include you in our insurance scheme, our liability for actual physical loss of or damage to your belongings is limited by the terms of the rental agreement, which forms part of our contract with you.
PROVIDED THAT YOU ASK US TO ARRANGE INSURANCE, we can arrange insurance on your behalf, placed 100% Amica for AXA Versicherung AG and Others, which will cover physical loss of or damage to your belongings under our insurance scheme, as summarised below. You may inspect the policy at our office upon request.
TOTAL SUM INSURED
The full and actual maximum total value of the goods at any time, as stated to us in the rental agreement or elsewhere in writing. Under no circumstances may the sum insured exceed DKK 750,000 for any customer unless we have confirmed this in writing. The total sum insured may be increased by payment of an additional fee, subject to acceptance by our insurers.
RISKS INSURED AGAINST
Actual physical loss of or damage to your belongings caused by fire, lightning, explosion, earthquake, storm, flood, burst or leaking pipes, ingress of water or other liquid, aircraft or parts falling from it, moths, insects or vermin due to an external cause, theft involving coercion and forcible and violent entry to or exit from a building or unit, civil commotion, strikes, riots, malicious damage, and impact during transit of goods by vehicle or train.
UNDERINSURANCE
It is a condition of the insurance scheme that the sum insured at all times equals the full total value of the stored belongings. If you do not state the full replacement value of your belongings in the rental agreement, then in the event of a claim we will only be entitled, on your behalf, to recover from our insurers the proportion of the loss that the stated value bears to the total replacement value of your belongings.
BASIS FOR SETTLEMENT OF CLAIMS
Settlement of a claim will be by replacement, repair, or compensation, as the insurer chooses. In the case of a total loss or destruction of an item insured under this insurance, the basis of settlement will be the cost of replacing the item as new, provided that the item is substantially the same, but no better than the original when it was new.
Linen and clothing
Where a claim includes loss of or damage to one or more items of bedding and clothing, the insurers will make allowance for age, quality, degree of use, and the resulting market value of any such items that have been lost or damaged.
Documents
Where a claim includes loss of or damage to documents, the basis of settlement will relate to the reasonable costs of reprinting and/or the reasonable costs of reissuing and/or reconstruction, including any necessary new investigation or research to obtain important information.
PAIRS AND SETS CLAUSE
Where any items form part of a pair or set, the insurers will pay only for the actual items that have been lost or damaged. The insurers will not pay for items forming part of a pair or set that have not been lost or damaged.
POLICY EXCESS
No excess applies.
NOTICE OF CLAIM
We must be notified of all claims at the time the loss of or damage to your belongings is discovered, or at the time your belongings were removed from the unit, whichever occurs first.
