Insurance with Pelican
At Pelican, we care about safety and security because it's our job to look after your belongings while you're not using them. That's why we've created an insurance policy tailored to Self Storage that covers the full value of your storage in the unthinkable event of damage.
The insurance is made in collaboration with Reason Global Insurance, specialists in self storage insurance, and will of course have no deductible. Below you can read more about our coverages and why insurance is a requirement at Pelican.
Why do I need insurance?
Insurance is your security against financial loss should damage occur to your stored belongings.
Although the risk may seem low, damage such as fire, water damage or burglary can have serious consequences.
Insurance protects you against these unforeseen events, which is why Pelican makes it a requirement that your storage is insured.
This requirement is not just a formality, but a way for us to ensure that your valuables are in safe hands.
In the unlikely event of an accident, the insurance will ensure that you are compensated, so you can avoid financial worries and focus on what's important to you.
With our Pelican insurance, you're always covered:
- No deductible
- You choose the insurance level that suits you
- We take care of all the practicalities should an accident happen.
What does Pelican insurance cover?
Pelican insurance is a comprehensive insurance that, unlike many other insurance companies, covers the full value of your storage with no deductible. Our insurance policy covers, among other things:
- Damage to your property caused by fire, lightning, explosion, earthquake, storm, flood, burst or leaking pipes, ingress of water or other liquid
- Moths, insects or pests caused by an external cause
- Theft by burglary
- Damage caused by vandalism
In the unlikely event that your storage unit and your belongings are exposed to one of the above risks, we are here to help you!
How do I take out insurance?
As a new Pelican customer, taking out insurance is easy and simple.
When you book a storage unit with our online booking system, you will be asked to choose an insurance level after you have selected your unit.
Then simply pay and sign the rental contract, which includes the insurance document.
The insurance will take effect on the selected move-in date.
If you choose instead to make a reservation, call us or come down to one of our locations, we will help you take out the insurance.

Using your own insurance
If you don't want to take out Pelican insurance, it's also possible to use your own insurance for your storage unit.
However, you should be aware that very few insurance companies provide the same comprehensive coverage without deductible as our insurance.
When using your own insurance, it is important that you ensure that your own insurance meets the following requirements, which you can find in our insurance terms and conditions
To rent one of our storage units with your own insurance, you must be able to prove that your insurance meets the requirements.
It is currently not possible to complete an online booking with your own insurance.
Therefore, it requires you to physically come to one of our locations with your documentation to complete your booking with our staff.
