Style your apartment before you sell - 6 simple tips

1. Think about the apartment's potential target group
It is possible to attract a specific group of buyers just by styling your home. You can assess whether your apartment and its location is suitable for younger couples, families or older people. Families put more emphasis on multiple bathrooms and storage spaces. Older people, on the other hand, pay more attention to the apartment being easy to navigate.

2. Go through the things you no longer need
Go through all the rooms in your apartment and think about whether there is any furniture in the apartment that is unusable and can be given away or stored elsewhere during the selling process. Overcrowded rooms can easily hinder a potential sale as it can make your apartment appear smaller than it really is. You don't have to give away your belongings and furniture, you can simply have them stored in a storage unit.

When styling your apartment, it's important to make sure the purpose of each room is clear. The bedroom should look like a bedroom and not a storage room where clothes and other items are lying around on the floor. The same goes for the other rooms - they should look usable and tidy.

The real styling begins when you need to move all your personal items out of sight. It's also a good idea to remove all personal papers and documents as well as drawings and post-it notes on the fridge. The number of visible pictures should also be minimized.

The first thing potential buyers are greeted with is the entrance hall of the apartment. It is therefore important that you only leave the most necessary items here.
Wardrobes, storage rooms and closets should also be cleaned as you can expect your closet doors to be opened during viewings, as potential buyers are often interested to see how much storage space there is.

You can style your bathroom before a sale by putting away make-up, brushes, razors, curling irons, toothbrushes and other hygiene products. In addition, it's also a good idea to put away bathrobes and towels.

3. Do a complete cleaning
Once you've gone through all the things you no longer need, it's easier to do a complete cleaning. All surfaces in the apartment, including windows, should be cleaned. Dirty windows leave a bad impression - even in an otherwise beautiful apartment. The light shining in through clean windows also makes the apartment look better.
You should also clean your plants and throw out any withered plants.

4. Create a harmonious atmosphere
Think about how you can make all your rooms appear as spacious as possible - sorting out your stuff will give you much more space. Light and neutral colors, such as white, light gray and beige, appear as comfortable colors for many people, so you can keep the apartment light and combine it with a few strong colors that are repeated throughout the apartment on e.g. towels and pillows. However, you should be careful not to use too many or too strong colors.
A good tip is to stop in front of each room and think about what you see first - a camera will be very helpful here.
Then take a picture and judge from that what needs styling. It's easier to look at the different colors, shadows, contrasts and distracting objects from a picture than with your own eyes.

5. Focus on the light
Open the curtains and let the sun's rays fill the entire apartment with light. Make sure there are enough lamps in the apartment so that no corners are left in the dark. You can make the apartment feel even more homely with candles and if there is a fireplace in the apartment, the fire can also help create a cozy atmosphere in addition to giving off heat.

6. Take care of the last things before every viewing
Even if you've finished cleaning and sorting through the things you no longer need, there are still some things that should be done before every viewing of your apartment.
Make sure the air in the apartment is as fresh as possible by vacuuming and airing out the entire apartment. Clean the toilet bowl, sink and wipe down the surfaces in the bathroom. You should also clean the kitchen surfaces and take out the trash.
